Gas Air Compressor without Backup Power

Gas Air Compressor doesn't Need Backup Power

The start-up systems for most natural gas engine-driven air compressors utilize batteries; therefore they do not need AC power for start-up purposes. During electrical power outages, the natural gas engine-driven air compressor systems can continually operate their important industrial or manufacturing plant equipment without the need for backup power systems. Therefore, the use of emergency backup generators is not needed to ensure that the plant continues to operate without interruption. This also results in a reduction in the cost of operations, since additional power is not needed to keep the equipment in the plant operating without any interruptions.

The result in cost reduction can be further explained as follows: A normal engine-driven 100-horsepower, air-cooled compressor (with 110 horsepower at full load capacity with a 3 horsepower fan) would result in a reduced backup power capacity need by at least 82kW, which, therefore, results in more than $32,000 at a backup power generator cost of approximately $400/kW.

In order to preserve and protect the equipment's ability to generate compressed air during power outages, most natural gas engine-driven air compressor systems utilize batteries in order to start up the system, and therefore, do not need AC power for that function. As a result, the cost of a backup power system is not needed, even during power outages, because the natural gas engine-driven air compressor systems can supply compressed air without a backup system. The savings can be quite substantial to the overall operating budget of your manufacturing or industrial plant.
