Some Elements on Industrial Air Compressors

The purpose of a compressor is to intensify the pressure of a gas. This type of operation was even performed centuries ago, albeit in a somewhat unsophisticated manner, with the use of bellows. Therefore, you could surmise that the earliest forms of air compressors were bellows. These bellows were used primarily to build up heat in furnaces and were predominantly used by blacksmiths.

Water wheels essentially powered the first manufacturing compressors. These compressors were actually quite simple forms of machinery which were power driven by pistons. Nowadays the compressed air system, used predominantly for industrial purposes, is composed of different sub-systems, as well as multiple sub-components. The devices that are included as portions of the major sub-systems are the compressor, prime mover, distribution system, controls and treatment equipment and accessories.

The purpose of the actual compressor is to take in encompassing air and then to increase the pressure of that air. The compressor is powered by the prime mover. The amount of compressed air that is being produced is regulated by the controls. Contaminants are removed from the air by the treatment equipment and the accessories on the equipment keep the system functioning correctly.

Compressed air is conveyed to the location where it is needed and used by the distribution systems. In this manner, the distribution systems serve the same purpose as wiring does in the electrical venue.

The efficiency and function of the compressor system may be improved due to the assistance of compressed air storage.
